Issue 2 Passes in Ohio

Ohio voters legalize adult-use cannabis

Ohio voters have approved the use of recreational marijuana after passing Issue 2 this past election Tuesday.

As of Wednesday, approximately 99 percent of the voting precincts reported that Issue 2 received approximately 57 percent of the vote. Provisional ballots, however, have yet to be counted and official results are yet to be certified.

Issue 2 allows individuals aged 21 years and older to possess and consume cannabis, and cultivate up to six cannabis plants. The law also limits the number of cannabis plants that can be grown per residence to 12. Under Issue 2,  the cultivation, manufacturing, testing, and sale of cannabis and cannabis products will be legalized and regulated by the state.

A 10 percent cannabis tax will be implemented and applied to adult-use cannabis sales, which will be used for:

  • Social Equity and Jobs Programs

  • Funding for Dispensary Host Communities

  • Addiction Treatment and Education

  • State Regulatory and Administative Costs
